Choir sings at Trinity Service in Trinity Church

The Choir members, looking colourful in their matching scarves, sang out  their well rehearsed songs at the Trinity Service in Trinity Church, Elsworth recently,  following which they received many positive comments from the congregation.  Everyone was invited to stay for refreshments afterwards; an altogether very enjoyable afternoon.

The Choir’s next venue will be at St. Peter’s Church Flower Festival in Papworth on Sunday 26th June at 6pm (many of the  arrangements made from the choir members themselves). The bi annual Flower Festival theme is ‘The World’ and the Church will look splended bedecked with flowers – the Church will be open to the public on Saturday and Sunday and refreshments and cake will be served – a simply wonderful occasion.

May 2016

The month started with the regular lunch outing when about 20 members sampled the hospitality at The Wheatsheaf at Perry, close to Graham Water.  The weather played its part in that the sun shone, the temperature was balmy, the birds were singing and we were able to take advantage of the comfy sofas and chairs on the terrace and around the garden for a chat and a pre-lunch drink.  Indoors we enjoyed the variety of meals that we had pre-ordered – and very good they were too.  Many were tempted outside again for coffees and teas, so the afternoon was well advanced before we departed for home.  An evening dinner outing is being organised for June so that those members who are not available during the working day will be able to join in.

Our May meeting featured Josie Charter from the Cambridge-based charity Aquaid Lifeline speaking about their work in Malawi, one of the world’s poorest countries, where they provide care and education for orphaned and needy children. Much of their funding comes from the rental revenue from the Cooleraid water coolers that are resident in many a public place in the UK. For such a serious and worthwhile topic Josie vividly brought to life the daily lives of the rural population in a light-hearted and interesting way. She was an absolute delight to listen to.

The Choir members, looking colourful in their matching scarves, enjoyed singing their well rehearsed songs at the Trinity Service in Elsworth Church, following which they received many positive comments from the congregation. They are now preparing for their performance at St Peter’s Church, Papworth, during the Flower Festival weekend 24-26th June.

We will not be holding a formal meeting in June as we have organised a summer visit to Holkham Hall in Norfolk instead, but later in the month, for the first time, Papworth WI will be hosting a Group Meeting of local WIs in the village hall.

The next meeting on 20th July, our 9th Birthday, will be dedicated to ‘Flowers and Fun’.
