New-Year New-Songs New-Challenges

Saffron Hall Festival

A Happy New Year is wished to all our supporters who are so willing to step forward and assist the Choir during the year,  This year Lyrical Voices are planning an afternoon of Music and Song to be held at the Papworth Village Hall in June.  This will be an opportunity for friends and family along with local villagers to come along and enjoy this musical enterprise with refreshment and a raffle to complete what should be, a very relaxing and enjoyable afternoon.  Information and details of this event will be announced later.

The Choir are also singing at a local care home in the Spring  and arrangements are going ahead with this.  We would like to extend a warm welcome to any like minded persons who feel they would enjoy singing  with the Choir.  We are a very friendly group and have a lot of fun and laughter during our singing sessions.  There is no need to have sung before or to read music and you do not have to be a WI member so just come along to the Studio on the lst, 2nd or 4th Wednesday of the month at 7.15pm and join the girls.

Choir sing at Ely Cathedral and Elsworth Trinity Church

For the forth year running the Choir have sung at Ely Cathedral for their annual Charity Carol Service with proceeds to Royal Papworth Hospital.  Our song this year was a traditional German Carol ‘In Winter’ by Victor C Johnson,  a very pretty Carol and one we all enjoyed singing.  We would like to thank Thania, a good friend of our musical director Jan, who kindly conducted the choir in Jan’s absence,  also Penny our pianist.  The Choir arrived early to enjoy a light lunch in the Almonry Tea Room before heading up to the Lady Chapel for a quick rehearsal.   After the Service mince pies and mulled wine were served to the congregation by some of our choir members.

On Saturday 22nd of December we sang at Elsworth Trinity Church Carol Service.   Our choice of songs were ‘In Winter’ by Victor C Johnson, ‘Somewhere in My Memory’ by Leslie Bricusse and John Williams, ‘Starlight’ by Giles Swayne and we finished with a lighthearted rendition of ‘Rudolph The Red=Nosed Reindeer’.  Once again the Mulled Wine and Mince Pies were served and a very social time was enjoyed by all.

Choir sings at St Peter’s Church Flower Festival

On Sunday 1st July,  St Peter’s Church, Papworth held their bi annual Flower Festival and Lyrical Voices were invited to sing at a small concert during the afternoon.  The weather was fantastic and  friends and family turned out to look at the spended flower arrangements to the theme of  ‘Hats’ and what a show they put on.  The choir then sang to their audience some lovely songs as ‘The Rose’,  ‘ Hallelujah’, ‘Fly me to the Moon’ and more.  All this was followed by refreshments out in the very pleasant July sunshine, an altogether delightful day.

Also during July the Choir was presented with a cheque from our own WI.  As we are self funding we do have to raise monies ourselves and this will help to pay our entrance monies when we sing at differant functions,  so a big thank you on behalf of the members.

Spring into Springtime with Lyrical Voices

Choir at rehearsal in April 2018

The beginning of the year saw the Choir’snumber grow and newcomers are always welcome; in fact this is a great time to join as the Choir is enjoying a relaxed period when they are able to sing popular songs of their own choice.  Why not join us at the Papworth Studio on the 1st, 2nd, and 4th Wednesday’s of the month at 7.15pm you are certain to receive a very warm welcome.  Members do not have to read music and believe us you will have a fantastic time,  go away feeling renewed and alive and what better way than through the joy of singing.

Choir Sings locally during December Festivities

After our wonderful day at Ely Cathedral earlier in the month, the Choir went on to sing at the Elsworth Church Carol Service on Saturday 16th December which is always a pleasure.  Singing Carols really brings home the true meaning of Christmas and everyone had a great time.  After singing their Mozart Mince Pie song,  mince pies were indeed served afterwards along with mulled wine and a lovely social chat.

Once again,  on the 19th December the Choir sang at the Papworth Day Centre.  The members really seemed to enjoy singing along with some familier Carols and the Choir members stayed and chatted over coffee before leaving the Day Centre members to enjoy their own Christmas lunch together.
