papworth WI – activities for Feb/March 2021

Many members joined us for our first ‘Zoom’ meeting’ on 16th February and were delighted to see and chat to many friends.  We started in the normal way with the business catching up on recent information and this was followed by our first talk and demonstration via the Zoom network.  Our very own Daphne gave a brilliant talk and demonstration entitled Nurture and Nourish when she explained the importance of looking after and caring for ourselves mentally and physically before we can look after and care for others.  We all joined in with Daphne doing some meditative head and shoulder exercises concentrating on our breathing – a wonderful relaxing end to our evening.

EASTER – BRING ME SUNSHINE

Several ladies wore their Easter bonnets/bunny ears to make our Easter meeting go with a swing.  A lovely demonstration by Lyn on how to bring Sunshine into your room by making a lovely spring arrangement on a plate from small flowers, plants and greenery from your very own garden.   Gill then demonstrated how to make chocolate easter nests filled with lovely little mini-eggs – delicious.

Several ladies made Easter crafts and Easter bonnets and donated items to hang in the trees for the Papworth Community Group who organised a Craft Walk in Papworth over the Easter.

Our next members’ Zoom Meeting Tuesday April 20th at 7.30pm

PAPWORTH EVERARD WI – JANUARY 2021

Share the love

Due to the current restrictions we find ourselves once again unable to take part in our normal everyday activities and who can believe it is nearly a year ago since the first lockdown!

Our members continue to support one another by way of telephone calls, quizzes, poems and various news items and our Committee continue to meet monthly on Zoom to discuss future plans for the members once we can return to our monthly meetings.  We are planning to hold a Zoom WI Meeting again in February for the members with a short talk on ‘Wellbeing during the pandemic’ and a fun quiz.  This will hopefully be an opportunity for those able to join to chat with friends who they have not seen for some considerable time and certainly have a few laughs at the same time.

With Valentine’s day looming we also have something up our sleeve for members to enjoy in order to ‘spread the love’ with their friends.

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY- MAY YOUR DAY BE FULL OF LOVE AND HOPE

PAPWORTH EVERARD WI ACTIVITY FOR DECEMBER 2020

FROM PAPWORTH EVERARD WI

We hope everyone enjoyed a happy and peaceful Christmas, although I am sure many of you had to make changes to your plans due to the government’s new restrictions.

Prior to Christmas members rose to the challenge to help make items to be included in parcels that were being distributed by the Papworth Community Group.  A wonderful variety of items from handmade cards, handmade xmas labels, beautiful knitted and crocheted tree decorations, together with handmade xmas pot pouri bags, and so the list goes on.  Thanks to all the ladies that gave up their time at very short notice.

A fun Christmas Face Covering Competition among the members took place with several ladies taking part.  Photographs were taken of all the entries and sent to the members to make their choice.  The winner as you can see was the lovely mask made by Joyce.

A Christmas gift of scrumptious christmas biscuits were delivered personally by the Committee to all the members by way of a thank you for all their support over the past very difficult year.

Our choir had a festive Zoom Christmas Sing Along, together with a quiz which put us all in a great Christmas mood.

Finally, members were invited to a Zoom meeting to give them a chance to see other members and to offer each other Christmas wishes.  Several members joined in but we are hoping to make this a regular event each month and to also arrange events that members can take part in on Zoom going forward.

We look forward to 2021 which will hopefully be a more positive and fruitful year for the WI and for the whole of the Community.

Papworth Everard WI – Update for October 2020

Unfortunately as the Covid situation continues to be very uncertain, our WI ladies have been unable to meet again this month as a Group.  However, some of the ladies have met up in small groups for a coffee or lunch at the local garden centre.  It is important for many of us to try and meet up and chat on a regular basis while the rules allow!

The one highlight of this month has been the 94th birthday of our lovely member Ruth Hurst.  Ruth has been a WI Member for over 70 years!!   She has served on Committees as President on more than one occasion of her WI in Upshire in Essex and Frinton on Sea in Essex before moving to Papworth around 20 years ago.  Ruth lives on her own but is frequently visited by a couple of our WI members who have enjoyed a drink and nibbles with her outside of her home.  The photograph below shows just how youthful our Ruth looks enjoying her glass of wine and holding the lovely card made by our member Liz.

The Committee continue to Zoom once a month to discuss future options and plans once things return to normal.

Keep well everybody with best wishes from PEWI

Papworth Everard WI – Report for September 2020

PAPWORTH EVERARD WI – UPDATE FOR SEPTEMBER 2020

Our plans for another Picnic in the Park for September have unfortunately been postponed due to the new restrictions introduced by the Government reducing the numbers of people meeting to 6.   However, it is proposed that groups of 6 ladies wishing to share a coffee or lunch together will be arranging between themselves to meet up and have a chat and cuppa.

Several ladies met up earlier in the month to remember one of our most senior members, Doris Davey, who sadly died in July 2019.  A beautiful rose, named Especially for You,  was planted in our memorial garden by the library in her memory.  We then shared memories of Doris over a coffee at the Café – self distancing of course! Many people in the community will remember Doris who was one of the most joyous and interesting people you could wish to meet.  Doris is dearly missed by us all.

The ladies continue to support each other , some learning new skills – Joan is taking up the piano again – she explains – I had piano lessons until I rebelled at 14, since then I have tinkled away with just the right hand when I needed a tune so I am now relearning how to play with 2 hands!!

Pat has made a simple autumn wreath for the door with seed heads and berries from the garden – it not only looks cheerful and seasonal but the birds love it too.

The Committee continue to Zoom once a month to discuss future options and plans once things return to normal.

Keep well everybody with best wishes from PEWI
