Monthly Archives: March 2022

February and March have seen a lot of activity among the WI members.

We held a super Afternoon Tea with around 20 members enjoying delicious sandwiches and cake at Dobbies Garden Centre in Huntingdon.

Our February meeting was a ‘crafty’ evening with lots of lovely Easter Chicks being made in the form of knitted, crocheted or cards.   These items were brought  back to our March meeting where we decided to donate them to help raise funds for a good cause.

A coach trip to Milton Keynes Theatre to see Jersey Boys started the month off in March – a great show with dancing in the aisles enjoyed by all.        Our March lunch was held at the Wheatsheaf in Perry – a great venue and wonderful food.

If you have walked past the garden alongside the library in Papworth, and many of you have, you will have noticed the wonderful work carried out by our WI under the guidance of one particular member of who we are extremely proud.

Part of the garden has been adopted by us as a Memorial Garden for past members but the remaining part was particularly overgrown and in need of attention.  In true WI spirit pulling weeds, cutting back, mulching and much more went ahead with further planting to be carried out to create a garden for bees, ie a garden to encourage wildlife.  We hope we can continue with this work which will benefit not only the wildlife but the people of Papworth who can enjoy the flowers and plants.  If you pop down to see the garden you will find it a joy of flowers – pulmonaria, primroses, violets and daffodils in bloom.  Soon there will be other flowers and then the lavender and roses.  It has lifted the spirits of the people who have walked past it and their complimentary comments have been most welcome.

Do go down and take a look – you will be amazed!!

Our meeting in March saw members bring along their completed Easter chicks – around 40 in total! – together with a lovely Easter teddy bear and attractive crocheted bag and it was agreed to donate these to the East Anglian Childrens Hospice (EACH), complete with Cream Eggs.  The chicks were delivered to the Hospice Shop in Huntingdon for them to sell in their shop – all the proceeds going to help the children of the Hospice.   If you hurry you may still be in time to purchase one, but they were selling fast!!  The Shop were absolutely delighted to receive them.

We have organised another theatre trip for 2nd April to the Arts Theatre in Cambridge to see Priscilla Queen of the Dessert – This is sure to  be another successful outing!

Our April Meeting will take place on 20th April when we have our AGM –  everyone is welcome to come along to find out what we are all about.   We also have the Papworth Tree Warden, David Potter, coming along to give us a talk about tree planting in Papworth.

Papworth Everard WI is the perfect way of meeting new friends, enjoying social events and listening to interesting speakers and also learning new skills and crafts.   Do come along ladies – all are welcome (over the age of 18) .  We meet on the third Wednesday of each month (except for August) at The Studio at 7.15 for 7.30pm.  We look forward to meeting you.
