Everyone says that the Summer BBQ held at Yelling Village Hall was once more a great success. The weather stayed fine and the food was excellent and the BBQ was well cooked by Charlie Burton and Tony Martin.
We have also enjoyed 2 lovely afternoon teas at the Courtyard Cafe and tucked into Julie’s wonderful scones and bakes.
We were delighted with our speaker for the September meeting. Amanda Sutherland in her own unique way related to us her career as a costume designer in theatre, television and film. She went on to tell us about starting her own accessories business and she brought with her items to illustrate the fascinators and jewellery she makes. We were amazed by the transormation of the materials she uses including, for example, old coke cans. We were able to purchase these at the end and I am sure some members will be popping along to her stall at Cambridge market to find some pretty pieces.
On the 4 September members enjoyed getting together for the monthly lunch. This time at the Eaton Oak at Eaton Socon. The lunch was kindly arranged by Angela Charles and all members enjoyed a good catch-up while lunching together.
The Papworth & Elsworth WI Choir Friends and Family concert was considered to be a very happy and successful event. As well as the choir being on stage both during the first half and after the interval, there were a number of other performances. The Cambridge Clarinet Choir played a number of pieces that had us smiling and we enjoyed the lovely voice of the soprano. During the interval tea, coffee and cakes were served.
The second half started off with Elvis, who joined us to sing some of his all time favourites and he soon had us singing along with the choruses. Finally the Papworth & Elsworth WI Choir closed with a selection from their repertoire bringing an enjoyable afternoon of music to an end.
