For the second year running the choir have sung again at the Ely Cathedral. We were very honoured to sing in such a beautiful Cathedral with the lighted Christmas Tree gloriously standing all of eighteen feet high. We sang a very pretty carol ‘Colours of Christmas’ words and music by John Rutter. After the service the choir proceeded to the front of the Cathedral to serve warmed mulled wine, coffee and tea and also a lovely mince pie to the congregation. A suprise was in store though, with the choir suddenly bursting into song with a rendition of ‘Mozarts Mince Pies’ and donning their red and white christmas chefs hats, a great time was had by all. After all the excitment, the choir enjoyed a really tasty and well presented Christmas Dinner in the Cathedral’s Almonry Restaurent.

Bethany Frances Care Home
Members of the Choir donning their Chef’s hats in readiness for their hilarious ‘Mozart’s Mince Pie Song. This song added a little light heartedness and fun for our audience. We would like to thank Bethany Frances Care Home for welcoming us to sing to their clients and providing us with a festive sherry, or a nice cuppa.
Christmas Choirs and Celebrations
Christmas really is just around the corner and the Choir are already rehearsing for this busy season. The Choir will be singing Christmas Carols at the Bethany Frances Care Home in St. Neots on Tuesday 13th December at 2pm. Also the Choir is privileged once again to be able to sing at the Papworth Hospital Charity and Ely Cathedral Carol Service to be held in the Cathedral on Saturday 17th December at 11am, tickets available at the Charity Office, Papworth Hospital. It is regret that the CFWI have now cancelled the ‘Christmas’ Cracker’ event when the Choir would have been performing.
The WI Choir Friends of Papworth Hospital
The Papworth and Elsworth WI Choir have been actively involved raising money for the Papworth Hospital Charity. Previously we held a stall at the Queen’s Birthday Fete on the Papworth Green selling £100 of their popular shop goods. We followed this with two more stalls, one at St Ives Corn Exchange and another at the Huntingdon Race Course Car Boot when we sold items kindly donated by the Choir members themselves and a total of £305 was raised. A big thanks to our girls for their generosity; even Wood Green Animal Centre benefited with unsold goods dropped off on the way home.
St Peter’s Flower Festival and Finale
A wonderful arrangement of flowers representing the World were on display at the Church over the weekend. The South Pole, Australia, Japan, Africa they were all there in their glory; an amazing effort from so many local and interested people coming together in this way. The Choir then sang a lovely song ‘You Raise me up’ followed by the hymn ‘Amazing Grace and the finale ‘A Gaelic Blessing’. A social chat followed, with Pimm’s nibbles and cakes being served to the congregation. Thank-you St Peter’s; the Choir look forward to another opportunity to sing along with you again.
